I’m not a gamer who plays popular games like Fortnite, but I am a medical nerd who LOVES medical simulation games! One of my coworkers introduced me to a fantastic medical simulation game called Full Code Medical two years ago.

What’s the game about? You are presented with a case with a brief medical history, and you are responsible for determining the course of treatment, diagnosis, and disposition (e.g. discharge to home, admit to ICU, transfer to OR, etc). This game is like a medical puzzle. As a nurse with over 24 years experience, I was always intrigued with how the healthcare team would utilize certain tests and assessments to diagnose and treat people who presented to the hospital with disabling symptoms.

Now that I’m a nursing instructor, I was racking my brain trying to devise creative ways to teach my students. My coworker introduced me to Full Code Medical, and I’ve been hooked ever since! I enjoy using it as a way to reinforce what I taught students in class and encourages them to use their critical thinking to diagnose and treat the virtual patient. Because I want to try to help other nursing or medical students, I’m going to try playing the game on TikTok Live on a weekly basis (hopefully).
