For April’s issue of EP Lab Digest, I was interviewed! Big thanks to Jodi Elrod for the wonderful interview. For those of you who are not familiar with EP Lab Digest, this magazine is a popular cardiology publication. I was honored and extremely excited to be interviewed for the magazine! Best part – the cardiologists I used to work with messaged me with congratulations and kudos! Definitely a highlight for Grace The Nurse 🙂

Ever get motion sickness? I do. I tend to get motion sickness from cars, boats, and sometimes trains. For those of you who don’t have motion sickness (lucky!), motion sickness is when people get nauseous while riding in moving vehicles. It can be torture…especially when you’re stuck in a car or boat for hours.
In today’s Health Tips in Minutes video, I’m going to tell you about 3 motion sickness remedies, and the one I recommend is all natural and non-drowsy!
I flimed this video while on a boat in Monterey, CA. I took a trip to find whales, and we got to see killer whales and grey whales! You’ll see a snippet of one of the videos I took of the wild orcas (killer whales). Such a fantastic experience!

By the way, here’s a picture of one of the wild orcas I saw during the boat ride (so awesome!):

Healthy lunch idea of the day: For lunch, I made a plate with organic blue tortilla chips, low sodium black beans, low sodium garbanzo beans, low sodium corn, fresh avocado sprinkled with jalapenos and cilantro and served with a side of salsa. Dish has about 260 calories, 16 grams of protein, 15.5 grams of fat, and 160 mg of sodium, and no cholesterol!

The hip hop world lost a legend today. Phife Dawg of the legendary hip hop group, A Tribe Called Quest, passed away at the young age of 45. The reason: diabetes, as reported by Rolling Stone. I’m saddened by this news because as a fan of hip hop and as an East coast girl, A Tribe Called Quest, in my eyes, is one of the greatest hip hop groups of all time.
A few years ago, I watched the fantastic documentary Beats Rhymes & Life: The Travels of A Tribe Called Quest and learned a great deal about ATCQ, including how Phife Dawg needed, and received, a kidney transplant. I didn’t realize that his health issues and kidney problems were due to diabetes.
If you have diabetes, please take this disease seriously. It’s one disease that, unfortunately, many people ignore. I’ve taken care of too many patients who have diabetes and didn’t want to see a doctor. The ones who did have a doctor to treat their diabetes did not follow the dietary restrictions or take their medications correctly and ended up with complications that lead them to visits to the hospital.
Please, if you have diabetes, make sure to see a doctor and follow his/her recommendations. It could save your life.

RIP Phife Dawg. I’ll miss your crafty rhymes.
